Kiini Ibura Salaam is a writer, painter, and traveler from New Orleans, Louisiana. Her first collection Ancient, Ancient (Aqueduct Press, 2012) won the James Tiptree Jr. Award, was short listed for the William L. Crawford Award, and was selected by Locus magazine for their 2012 Recommended Reading List. Her fiction has appeared in Dark Matter, Mojo: Conjure Stories, Unconventional Fantasy and many other anthologies. Her nonfiction has been published in Colonize This!, Utne Reader, and Ms. among other publications. She documents her observations on the writing life in the Notes From the Trenches ebook series.
