About Yamile Saied Mendez

Yamile Saied Méndez is the author of many books for young readers and adults including the award-winning picture books Where Are You From? and What Will You Be? She was born and raised in Rosario Argentina and now lives in a lovely valley surrounded by mountains in Utah with her husband five children two dogs and a majestic cat. Shes a graduate of Voices of Our Nations and the Vermont College of Fine Arts MFA writing for children and young adults program. Shes always trying new empanada recipes. Although she was a timid child who was afraid of just about everything she discovered a sense of serenity in drawing. As a grown-up Jaime has finally stopped being afraid of everything but has kept on drawing and painting. She works with gouache and acrylics to create nostalgic and dreamlike illustrations inspired by childhood memories of her family as well as movies art and the outside world.
