Discover seven unique fables, filled with humour, heart and hope, from Onjali Q. Raúf, author of The Boy at the Back of the Class. Beautifully illustrated in black and white by Katarzyna Doszla, this is the perfect book to read and cherish together.

Have you heard of the tiger with no tail? Or of the extra-specially-super-deliciously-fantastically naughty boy who got a frog stuck in his throat? No? Well, tuck yourself in, and let Onjali Raúf entertain you with her first collection of never-before-told fables of magic and mischief...

From the sand-laden shores of Egypt where an axe married a tree, to the mountains of Japan where dragons and hungry mirrors roam, discover new tales of magic, wonder and imagination, inspired by old sayings, everyday objects and countries of the world.

Written with Onjali's trademark heart and humour, and inspired by her travels, Where Magic Grows is a compilation of seven original fairy tales where friendship, kindness - and poetry - await.

Onjali Q Raúf's first book, The Boy at the Back of the Class, was Winner of the Waterstones Children's Book Prize in 2019, the Blue Peter Book Prize 2019 and has recieved many other accolades. Raúf's second book, The Star Outside My Window, went on to win the Diversity Book Award for Children's Fiction (UK) 2020. Her further fiction titles include: The Night Bus Hero, The Lion Above the Door, The Letter with the Golden Stamp and The Game I Will Never Forget as well as the fairy tale collection Where Magic Grows, the non-fiction title Hope on the Horizon, and the picture book The Girl at the Front of the Class. In 2022, Raúf was recognised for her services to Literature and Women's Rights in the New Year Honours.
