In these mercurial poems, real and imaginary events combine with overheard, quoted and misquoted voices to produce a slippery and unreliable series of opinionated poems. What appear at first to be heartfelt confessions reveal themselves to be exercises in ventriloquism, argumentative fictions that seek to subvert and surprise the reader. This poetry is a different kind of beast to what you might have expected.
Rupert Loydell is Senior Lecturer in English with Creative Writing at University College Falmouth, and the editor of Stride and With magazines. He is the author of several collections of poetry, including Boombox and The Fantasy Kid for children, and many collaborative texts, most recently A Music Box of Snakes, co-authored with Peter Gillies. He recently edited From Hepworth's Garden Out: poems about painters and St. Ives and Troubles Swapped for Something Fresh, an anthology of manifestos and unmanifestos; Smartarse, is forthcoming. He lives in a creekside village with his family and far too many CDs and books.
