Discover the secrets of intarsia--the art of making beautiful three-dimensional picture mosaics that combine the natural colors and textures of wood. Intarsia legends Judy Gale Roberts and Jerry Booher provide all the inspiration and information readers need to cut, shape, and piece stunning wood inlay wildlife portraits. The authors explain how to choose wood--by judging its size, thickness, color, and grain--and provide expert instruction in shaping and sanding techniques. Three complete step-by-step projects are provided for creating dramatic raised images of a Bald Eagle, a Wild Mustang, and a Bull Moose. Eleven additional patterns feature a cross-section of North America's most popular wild animals. Wildlife Intarsia, Second Edition also features full-sized patterns and a colorful new photo gallery of inspiring projects.
Judy Gale Roberts is widely recognized as the driving force behind the revival of intarsia as a popular art form. She is largely responsible for reviving intarsia from the 15th century and leading its international resurgence. Judy began creating intarsia pieces in the 1970s and has been inducted into WOOD magazine's Woodworking Hall of Fame. She is co-author of several intarsia books, including Wildlife Intarsia; Intarsia Workbook; and Small Intarsia. Part of the creative team that reinvented modern intarsia, Jerry Booher is co-author of several intarsia books, including Wildlife Intarsia; Intarsia Workbook; Easy to Make Inlay Wood Projects Intarsia; Intarsia Artistry in Wood; and Small Intarsia.
