However, his rise to prominence as the only African, black and Muslim boss of large Western corporations was also accompanied with disproportionate public and media scrutiny, as well as racism and xenophobia.

Both Ivorian and French, Tidjane Thiam was for 11 years CEO of Fortune 500 companies – Prudential PLC for 6 years and Credit Suisse for 5. In the 1990s, he spent six years in his native Cote d’Ivoire in cabinet level positions. Tidjane Thiam is a graduate from Ecole Polytechnique, Ecole des Mines de Paris and Insead.
