What role have women played in the formation of American foreign policy? Professor Edward Crapol's students challenged him to answer this question and "Women and American Foreign Policy: Lobbyists, Critics, and Insiders" aims to provide answers. Professor Crapol initially postulated that women have played only a minor role in American foreign policy. His ensuing research convinced him, however, that women have been able to make significant contributions, even while remaining secondary players in a male-dominated arena. This collection of essays spans more than 150 years of American history and highlights the efforts of such women as abolitionist Lydia Maria Child, activist-actress Jane Fonda, and UN Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick. The introduction and Dr Joan Hoff-Wilson's concluding chapter contribute theoretical overviews.
