‘The ache of spring is undeniable. It hurts before it sings.’
Out in the American fields, skunk cabbages sprout like hooded baby goblins; arrow-like herons emerge with fish in their beaks; and fireflies return to the deep shadows of a summer night.
Wonderment is a beautiful anthology of seasonal poetry, written and illustrated by Sherry L. Ross.
Exploring the countryside with an acute understanding of Mother Nature’s magic and inspired by centuries of woodland and pastoral folklore, Ross’s words and images capture a genuine sense of awe, as light and dark come and go and each season in turn bends the landscape to its will. Having previously authored the charming children’s book Return of the Vinetropes, Ross is well placed to convey the innocent wonders of the natural world in this imaginative and visually stunning collection.
Perfect for fans of all things wild and wonderful.
Sherry L. Ross grew up in a home where writing and art were part of everyday life. She spent most days reading classic fantasy novels and writing poetry. Her first middle-grade novel, Return of the Vinetropes, is the fulfilment of a childhood dream. It combines her love of fantasy with poetry and prose. She has lectured on poetry and writing to middle school aged children. Ross is also the author of two books of poetry, Seeds of the Pomegranate and Falling Through Time. In addition, she is the editor-in-chief of the Art Renewal Center, a non-profit foundation leading the revival of realism in the visual fine arts. Ross currently lives with her husband, Fred Ross, in a house in the middle of the woods.
