Wary of what is happening, Papa Sheep sends out an SOS to his old friend Mr. Hare, who, at great risk to his personal safety, comes to their rescue. Then, once the sheep are safely ensconced in Mr. Hare’s island community, all of the inhabitants work together to protect them until the danger has passed. Within that hospitality, we see the trust and decency that are essential if we are to live together and thrive.

Kelly Matathia-Covo lives and works in Athens, Greece. She has illustrated more than 20 children’s books, many of which have received awards. Firm in her belief that storytelling and picture books always find a way to communicate even the most difficult subjects, she wrote and illustrated The Yellow Hats, which was awarded Best Picture Book by IBBY Greece in 2018, and in 2019 was shortlisted for the Greek National Children’s Book Award. Matathia-Covo was Greece’s 2024 nominee for the Hans Christian Andersen Award in illustration.
