Explore all the layers of history in one of England's most fascinating cities with York's Hidden Treasures. From the forgotten Roman foundations buried beneath the streets to the cheeky stone cats guarding modern rooftops, the winding journey within these pages reveals the incredible secrets hiding in plain sight.

Wander through ancient snickelways, uncover the mysterious pasts of medieval pubs and meet the colourful cast of characters – living and dead – who have left their undeniable mark on the city. You never quite know what treasures are waiting just below the surface … or just above your head. Whether you are a curious local or a first-time visitor, this captivating guide will inspire you to see York like never before.

ANGELA RANSON is a York resident who undertook tour guide training while she earned her PhD in English history, which is when she discovered some of the ‘small treasures’ of the city. Since then, she has started publishing historical murder mystery novels with Sapere Books, which has given her the opportunity to speak to audiences of all sizes about history and writing. She has also worked on the Board of Trustees for the York Literature Festival for four years, organising events, promoting publications, and interviewing authors.
