English

for SATB chorus with SAT and ATB verses and organ In the absence of any original material, Geoffrey Webber's preparation of this edition has been influenced by the scholarly reconstruction of the work by John Stainer. About

A composer and organist Daniel Purcell was the brother of renowned composer Henry Purcell. After starting out as a chorister in the Chapel Royal he was appointed organist of Magdalen College Oxford where he wrote his first compositions. Purcell then moved to London in 1695 where he went on to compose music for over 40 plays and worked as an organist at St Dunstan's-in-the-East and from 1713 at St. Andrew's Holborn. Although a talented composer in his own right to this day Daniel Purcell's music is overshadowed by the achievements of his more famous brother Henry.
