About Otto Binder

Born in 1911 Otto Oscar Binder was one of the most prolific writers of comics' Golden Age. He began his professional career in the world of science fiction pulp magazines where he collaborated on scores of pieces with his brother Earl under the pen name Eando Binder. After breaking into comics in 1939 Otto began working at his brother Jack's studio in 1941 and he was soon contributing scripts to Fawcett Publications. Binder became a mainstay on CAPTAIN MARVEL ADVENTURES eventually writing more than two-thirds of the title's stories over the course of its 150-issue run. During his time at Fawcett he helped to create many of the feature's most beloved supporting players including Mary Marvel Tawky Tawny the Sivana family and of course Mr. Mind. In 1953 he began long runs on such DC titles as MYSTERY IN SPACE STRANGE ADVENTURES SUPERBOY SUPERMAN and SUPERMAN'S PAL JIMMY OLSEN. He also contributed to E.C.'s classic line of science fiction and horror titles. Binder continued writing comics through the 1960s providing scripts for DC Harvey Warren and Western Publishing while simultaneously producing dozens of science fiction novels and short stories. He finally retired from writing full-time in 1969 and passed away on October 13 1974.
