DAVID FABRI has practised company law since the start of his legal career in 1980 when for more than ten years he led and managed the legal and corporate division of a leading audit firm. In 1992, he joined the new public offshore authority, MIBA, where he headed the offshore companies division, putting his experience in company law to good use. He was later involved in the drafting of the Companies Act 1995 and various related laws dealing with investment services, insider dealing and market manipulation, and in the transposition of the EU company law directives.
For more than ten years he served as Head of the Department of Commercial Law at the University of Malta and still co-ordinates the Masters programme in financial services, which includes advanced units in company law. Since 1995, he has extensively written, lectured and addressed numerous seminars and conferences on aspects of company law and for the past twenty years, he has organised an annual conference on company law for the Chamber of Advocates.
Since 1992, he served two terms on the Board of Cooperatives and in 2001, he co-drafted the new Co-operative Societies Act of that year. He still lectures on company and co-operatives law at the University of Malta at both under-graduate and post-graduate levels.
