Archaeological Walks on Gozo
By (author): Lenie Reedijk
In time for the start of the spring flowering season, the second edition of the booklet Archaeological Walks on Gozo has been published.
This charming 56-page book describes four walks through Gozo’s countryside which invite the visitor to Gozo to discover what may be one of the island’s well kept secrets: its abundant prehistoric remains.
In spite of Gozo’s small size, these precious prehistoric sites have mostly remained unknown, even to the local population. The reason for this will certainly not be lack of interest, but the simple fact that the sites are often hidden or far off the trodden track.
The walks take you to prehistoric caves, shelters, temples – including one from the Phoenician era – dolmens and seven cart-rut sites.
The author, Lenie Reedijk, worked in the tourism sector in Malta during the 1990s. A juridical translator by profession, she is now devoting much of her spare time to writing a second book on Maltese prehistory, which will show the importance of the Maltese temple culture for the beginnings of European philosophy.
