Sumaya Abdi an Economist at the University of Westminster in London. She is part of the Somali diaspora was born in the Netherlands and grew up in the UK. She is a Somalilander and is interested in the economic political and ethical problems of her country. Sofia Amaral is a young Portugese economist from the NOVA School of Business and Economics Portugal. She is Researching in Economics and International Management (CEMS-MIM). Her fields of interest include green economics and sustainable management as well as global affairs. She is passionate about the potential reform of economics for the benefit of Portugal especially as she sees Green Economics as a quick win and a logical and sensible way to solve its economics problems and its debt crisis. She has put together this volume exploring case studies from around the world and is keen to see how the ideas in this book can help other communities and countries with their economics problems. She is particularly keen to start with Portugal to see how things can be fundamentally improved by a rethink in its economics strategy. This book is the start of that process. Harnessing The Green Economics Institute's global network (which has been put together by Judith Felton Miriam Kennet Michelle Gale de Oliveira and Volker Heinemann) she wants to drive change and to create hope by Greening the Global Economy. Christopher L. Ambrey is researching at Griffith Business School Australia. Kanupriya Bhagat is currently pursuing Sustainable Development at the University of St Andrews. Originally from Agra India she has been involved with organizations such as CRY (Child Rights and You) New Delhi where she was part of the Digital Fundraising Department and has a strong interest in publishing. She enjoys working with the Green Economics Institute in developing green economics into a global initiative. Michael Briguglio lectures at the Department of Sociology of the University of Malta. His main interests are environment social movements social policy and politics. He is also active in Malta's environmental movement. Dr Susan Canney has worked on a variety of nature conservation projects in Africa Asia and Europe (living for several years in Niger and Tanzania) and as a research officer for Sir Crispin Tickell at the Green College Centre for Environmental Policy & Understanding. With MAs in Natural Sciences Landscape Design and Environmental Policy and a Doctorate for understanding the drivers behind changing human land use and its impact on a protected area in Tanzania her current research activities are centred on the use of spatial techniques for understanding human impact on ecosystems and wildlife. This understanding is used to find sustainable solutions in order to manage human-wildlife conflict; plan and implement conservation strategy; and develop participatory approaches to conservation management. Current projects include assuring a future for a unique population of elephants in the sub-Sahara of Mali as Project Leader of the WILD Foundation's Mali Elephant Project. Based in Oxford University's Zoology Department she teaches global ecology and is interested in the shift in scientific perspective presented by systemic approaches such as Lovelock's Gaia Theory; and in exploring the implications of this shift for society its institutions as well as for the individual's experience of Nature. She is the Secretary and a Co-founder of the Earth System Science Special Interest Group of the Geological Society of London and of the Gaia Network. She teaches on the issues surrounding the notion of valuing nature for the Green Economics Institute and is a member of their Biodiversity Group. Georgios N. Diakoulakis from Athens Greece is an economist. After military service in Greece (July 2012) he went to Sweden where he started his masters in environmental economics & management at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). As a bachelor student he was an active member of AIESEC one of the biggest student non-profit organizations participating in many events and conferences. Guschina Elena is a professor of Economics (PhD) at the department of World Economics and Economic Theory Volgograd State Technical University Russia. She has more than 20 years experience of teaching economics. The fields of her particular interest include: principles and tendencies of macroeconomics development; social marketing; motivation of energy efficiency etc. Guschina Elena is an author of more than 100 publications including 7 monographs. Christopher M. Fleming is a Director of Griffith University's Social and Economic Research Program a Lecturer at Griffith Business School in the Department of Accounting Finance and Economics a founding member of Griffith University's Asia-Pacific Centre for Sustainable Enterprise a member of the Key Centre for Ethics Law Justice and Governance and a Senior Associate of MainStream Economics and Policy. An applied micro-economist with teaching consulting and public policy experience Christopher's research and consulting interests include social and economic project/program evaluation natural resource and environmental economics the economic determinants of subjective wellbeing the economics of crime the sustainable management of natural resources and the economics of sustainable tourism. Per Gahrton is a Swedish politician. He was one of the founding members of the Swedish Greens a member of the Swedish Parliament and the European Parliament. He is the authour of over 35 books. Professor Dr Jose Ricardo Barbosa Goncalves holds a PhD in Economic History. Professor and researcher at the State University of Campinas Brazil. His recent publications include: Corporate social responsibility: credit and banking inclusion in Brazil and Private equity investment and labor: faceless capital and the challenges to trade unions in Brazil. He currently works at the intersection between labor rights social inclusion and economic development in a historical perspective. Professor Dr Katsushi S. Imai is an Associate Professor in Development Economics at School of Social Sciences and Brooks World Poverty Institute the University of Manchester. He obtained an MSc in Development Studies from LSE and a DPhil in Economics from the University of Oxford and previously taught at Oxford and at Royal Holloway the University of London. He regularly works for the IFAD the UN as an economic consultant and has published widely on risk vulnerability and poverty dynamics of households in developing countries in particular in India and other Asian countries. Miriam Kennet is a specialist in Green Economics she is the Co-Founder and is CEO of the Green Economics Institute. She also founded and edits the first Green Economics academic journal in the world the International Journal of Green Economics and she has been credited with creating the academic discipline of Green Economics. Green Economics has been recently described by the Bank of England as one of the most vibrant and healthy areas of economics at the moment. Having researched at Oxford University Oxford Brookes and South Bank University she is a member of Mansfield College Oxford University and the Environmental Change Institute. She has taught lectured and spoken at Universities and events all over Europe from Alicante to Oxford and Bolzano and to government officials from Montenegro and Kosovo to The UK Cabinet Office Transport Department National Government School and Treasury and spoken in Parliaments from Scotland to Austria and The French Senat and Estonia. She is also a regular and frequently speaks at public events of all kinds and after dinner speaker this week advising in the Uk Parliament and the Bank of England and in Brussels on the Eurozone crisis the high speed rail and the general economics situation. She is also very active in spreading Green Economics in Asia China and all round Africa where people find it may be one of the beacons of hope at the moment in an age of Austerity and Cuts as it provides a completely new way of looking at the world. Her work is very practical and she worked in factories and engineering for many years in the past. She is on the Assembly of the Green European Foundation and also on the steering group of the European Network of Political Foundations. She has a delegation to the UNFCC COP Kyoto Climate Change Conferences and headed up a delegation to RIO + 20 Earth Summit: Greening the Economy in RIO Brazil. She regularly speaks on TV around Europe most recently in Belgium and Estonia and this year the BBC has made a special programme about her life and work. She runs regular conferences at Oxford University about Green Economics and this year has run 8 events from Youth in Action for Young People from Egypt involved in the revolution People from FYRO Macedonia Italy and other countries as well as the Green Built Environment The Greening of China as the Chinese government is very interested in her work Womens Unequal Pay and poverty Green Economics and Methodology truth fact and reality with critical realism and several other events. Publishing regularly and having over 100 articles papers and other publications including Green Economics:Voices of Africa The Green Economics Reader Handbook of Green Economics: A Practitioners Guide The Green Built Environment Women's Unequal Pay and Poverty Green Economics and Climate Change as well as a new chapter on the green built environment and climate change for Wileys publishers in Lamond Hammond and Proverbs. She also publishes in scientific papers including the Latvian National Scientific Papers and Journals for example. She has been featured in the Harvard Economics Review and Wall Street Journal as a leader. Recently she was named one of 100 most powerful unseen global women by the Charity One World action for her global work. Philip Lymbery is CEO of leading international farm animal welfare organisation Compassion in World Farming and prominent commentator on the effects of industrial farming. He is listed by The Grocer as one of the food industry's most influential people. Under his leadership Compassion's prestigious awards have included The Observer Ethical Award for campaigner of the year and BBC Radio 4 Food & Farming awards for best campaigner and educator. His former roles include communications director at the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) and freelance strategist for various environmental groups. He was Compassion's campaigns director throughout the 1990s a period of extraordinary success including EU-wide bans on veal crates and battery cages. He has reports published on a range of topics including the ethical performance of supermarkets food labelling and fish farming. He has over 20 years professional experience as a campaigner against factory farming and has travelled the world to see first-hand how industrial agriculture affects people animals and the planet. Professor Dr Maria Alejandra Madi holds a PhD in Economics. She works at the intersection between macroeconomics finance and socio-economic development. Retired Professor at the State University of Campinas Brazil she is currenty Director of the Ordem dos Economistas do Brasil and Counselor at the Conselho Regional de Economia - SP. Besides her participation as co-author in chapter books edited by the Global Labor University she is a regular author with the Green Economics Institute. Matthew Manning is a lecturer at the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice Griffith Business School Australia. Mzoxolo Eliot Mbiko was a Ford Foundation Scholar and studied with the Green Economics Institute and works for the South African Government. An economist from South Africa Eliot is interested in Development Economics. Peter McGrath is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Management (SSTO) at the University of Central Lancashire. Peter's prime research interest is slow travel. He is currently working on a doctoral thesis on this subject with Professor Les Lumsdon in the Institute of Transport and Tourism. Peter has been involved in a range of research projects the most recent being a study conducted on the Eurovelo cycle network which examined the challenges and opportunities for sustainable tourism across the route. The European Parliament's Committee on Transport and Tourism requested this study. He also manages the VisTrav (Sustainable Leisure Travel) Network in partnership with Nat- ural England. The network brings together professionals pooling their expertise and experience to make leisure travel more sustainable. It seeks practical and grounded solutions to protect the local and global natural environment and examines the economic benefits of sustainable travel. Isayvani Naicker is researching Geography at the University of Cambridge looking at the interaction of science and policy in society focused on a case study of biodiversity conservation in South Africa. Her previous degrees include a Master of Science (Geology) from the University of Cape Town in South Africa and Master of Science (Philosophy of Social Science) from the London School of Economics and Political Science in he UK. She work s in the environmental and sustainable development fields in Africa. Badrak Natalia is a young Russian researcher with a Bachelor degree in Management a Master degree in International Business (2011 2013). Her thesis was on the creation of Green Economics in the EU countries. She became inspired to develop Green Economics concept in Russia after studying a year abroad at the University of West Bohemia (the Czech Republic Russian Presidential Scholarship for studying abroad) and collaborating with Green Economics Institute. Michelle S. Gale de Oliveira is a director of the Green Economics Institute UK. She is a member of the Law School of the University of London School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) holding an MA in Human Rights Law with a focus on Islamic Law Peace-Building and Developing Countries. Founder of the Gender Progress Consortium she holds degrees in Political Science and International Relations from Richmond the American International University in London (RAIUL) and is currently deputy editor of the International Journal of Green Economics. Her writing has been featured in Europe's World one of the foremost European policy magazines. She lectures and speaks on Human Rights Environmental and Social Justice Gender Equity International Development and Green Economics internationally. Recently she ran a conference on women's unequal pay and poverty in Reading UK lectured at the Oxford University Club on the human rights of land reform lectured on green economics in Berlin at retreats in Glastonbury UK and is a regular speaker at international conferences. She has appeared in the media in Africa Europe and Latin America. Michelle is a member of the Human Rights Lawyers Association the Law Society of England and Wales Human Rights Lawyers Group the London Middle East Institute. In 2010/2011 she was a delegate to Conference of Parties (COP15/16) in Copenhagen and Cancun and in 2012 led our delegation to RIO+20 where she ran three side events on green economics. Don O'Neal has a BSc(Hons) in Mathematics and an MA in Environmentalism and Society. He has been the Oxfordshire Greens Treasurer from September 2000 to date and is a political columnist for The News and The Vincentian national newspapers in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He is a co-founder of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Greens. Ieva Pepinyte is a macro economist and a former Erasmus scholar with the Green Economics Institute. She studies the changes and environmental issues in the economy in Lithuania and has edited several volumes for the Green Economics Institute. Viacheslav Potapenko is based at the National Institute for Strategic Studies of Ukraine chief consultant (from 2010); Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv docent (2000-2004); The National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy docent (1999-2000). Carlos Restituyo comes from the Dominican Republic. Because of his background living in Santo Domingo he is very familiar with the ailments of developing nations. Currently on his junior year at Richmond the American International University in London his academic interests include economics philosophy and the environment. He brings a young academic's perspective to the development issues of Latin American nations. Grit Silberstein is an Economist trained at the University of Gottingen in Germany. Born in Germany and raised in Ecuador she considers both countries as home. In 2010 she has been working at the Green Economics Institute advising on Economic Issues. She is researching in International Economics at the University of Gottingen in Germany specializing in development economics and at Nottingham University in the UK. Her interests include matters of sustainable development in European development aid and the European Union. She also works with Galextur in the Galapagos Islands promoting biodiversity. Ngefor Silvian has a Masters in Social and Cultural Anthropology Katholieke Universiteit Leuven Belgium and is a researcher in gender and forest management at the Faculty of Biosciences University of Ghent Belgium. Hayal Ayca Simsek is from Dokuz Eylul University Department of Public Finance. She received PhD degree on Fiscal Policy in 2003. Her fields of interest are: public finance; economic stabilisation; economic crisis; fiscal policies; public debt economic regulations; financial globalisation; the role of government in economy. Nevzat Simsek is from Dokuz Eylul University Department of Economics. He received PhD degree on International Economics in 2005. His fields of interest are: foreign trade (new trade theory intra-industry trade); energy economics; nonrenewable resources and conservation; renewable resources and conservation environmental management; prices business fluctuation and cycles; aggregate productivity; macroeconomic aspects of international trade and finance development planning and policy; regulation and industrial policy. Riad Sultan is a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Mauritius. He has wide experiences in socio-economic issues and policy-making having served as the Research Executive of the research department of the National Economic and Social Council of Mauritius. He was involved with the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) project in Mauritius for the African Union. He has conducted research on areas such as green jobs assessment green industry resource efficiency economics of bio-ethanol energy and ecosystem valuation in Mauritius. His research interests include climate change economics fisheries sustainable transport solutions energy modelling and economics of law. He has served as Consultant and Investigator for various organisations including the Mauritius Research Council UNDP ILO COI and the ICTSD. Dr. Enrico Tezza is a senior training specialist and has a background in social research and evaluation studies. After a career in the Italian Ministry of Labour and local public institutions he joined the International Labour Organisation in Turin in 1992. He is labour market advisor for the Green Economics Institute. Subjects covered vary from training policy to employment and active labour market measures. His current focus interest is on social dialogue for green jobs. His main publication was Evaluating Social Programmes: the relevance of relationships and his latest publications include Dialogue for Responsible Restructuring and Green Labour Market for Transitions. Illias Tsagas University of Strathclyde UK and is from Greece. Dr.Wei Lu is an Associate Professor and Assistant Dean at School of Management University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). Active in teaching research and consulting he has been involved in many international projects including the renewable energy business development training in China sponsored by the W. Alton Jones Foundation and the Cleaner Production Survey in China sponsored by UNESCO and mainstreaming climate change and CDM in the Chinese Financing Sector sponsored by the Global Opportunity Fund. He co-authored the book: Greening Chinese Business: Barriers Trends and Opportunities for Environmental Management Greenleaf Publishing. Wenjun Wang is a Financial Engineer at USTC and qualified in Mathemporatioatics from Anhui University China in 2005. She has participated in several projects including Mainstreaming Climate Change and CDM in the Chinese Financing Sector sponsored by the Global Opportunity Fund and a bi-country survey on college student entrepreneurship in China and the USA. She also co-authored Millington's book Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital. Dr Marian Wozniak PhD Rzeszow University of Technology Faculty of Management Department of Economics. Peter Yang was an Associate Research Professor in international economics in China who wrote on its economic reform policies and strategies in the early reform years. He is currently an Associate Professor and teaches at the Case Western Reserve University USA the Chinese and German economies and sustainable policies among other courses. His research focuses on China's public finance and its relationship with China's environmental and energy issues as well as the potentials of using public finance as green economic tools. Professor Dr Chow Fah Yee Associate Professor from University Teknologi MARA Malaysia. Currently she is an active member of Green Economics Institute contributing articles and papers to GEI books and journal. She is also an editorial board member of International Journal of Green Economics. She obtained her Ph.D from University Malaya Malaysia.
