Extradition is the process when a person wanted for criminal activity is given up from one sovereign nation to another sovereign nation, whereas rendition is the proper term used for returning an accused person from one state within the United States to another state. While it may seem to be a simple matter, it has become more complex with the passage of time. Students of international law--or anyone interested in the extradition process--can expect to learn about the Extradition Clause and Interstate Rendition Clause of the United States Constitution. This book focuses on the different aspects within the clause to provide clear and concise information on how it is best utilized in the United States legal system. Further, numerous court cases are used to exemplify the significance of this clause and how it can and has been applied in various situations. Among the case studies of extradited persons is El Chapo, otherwise known as Joaquin Archivaldo Guzman Loera, who was extradited from Mexico to the United States in January 2017. See more
