Jump into Jobs: Working with Weather

English

By (author): Kay Barnham Jennifer Naalchigar

Illustrated by: Jennifer Naalchigar

A fun and magical tour of the world of working with weather, with Billie and their very silly pet cat, Mia!

Does your child love weather? Do they think that they might want to work with weather one day when they are grown up? Help your child to find out about all sorts of weather-related jobs that people do.

Billie has a very special dressing up box. When they choose an outfit from the box, they are whisked away to meet all sorts of people doing all kinds of amazing job. In Working with Weather, Billie and Mia meet a meteorologist, a weather presenter, a storm chaser, an climatologist, a hydrologist, a weather photographer and many more. Together, they find out lots of interesting things about these jobs these people do and the weather they work with. (And be sure to take a close look to see what naughty and silly things Mia gets up to in the funny illustrations)

Jump into Jobs is no ordinary science careers series. It's designed to help young children to think not only about the job that they might want to do in the future, but to be inspired by the world of work that is happening all around them. Each book concludes with a spread to encourage children to research the topic further through fun activities. The series is perfect for children aged 5 and up who are interested in what adults do all day and as part of a well rounded PSHE and Science curriculum.

About Kay BarnhamJennifer Naalchigar

Kay Barnham was born in Barrow-in-Furness, grew up in Carlisle, went to college in Brighton, and lived in Hove for a while, before sailing for Kinsale, Co Cork, popping back to Hove and then moving to the New Forest with her husband and daughter. And never at any point has she lived more than ten miles from the sea. She began working in children's publishing in 1992. She was an editor first of all, working on illustrated non-fiction and learning fun facts like how long it would take to walk to the moon - nine years - and how to spell palaeontology. Next, she commissioned fiction titles, editing picture books, storybooks and novels. And then she got the chance to write her own books, which she thinks is quite the best job ever. Except possibly being a chocolatier. She writes non-fiction as Kay Barnham. Her specialist subjects include ice-skating, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, lightning, fairies, Roald Dahl, Sir Isaac Newton, Christmas, dolphins, Florence Nightingale and very bad cracker jokes. And chocolate. She also writes fiction as Kay Woodward, including the Skate School series for Usborne and the novels Jane Airhead and Wuthering Hearts for Andersen Press. Altogether, she's written about a hundred books. Her favourite colour is navy blue. Her favourite chocolate is 85% cocoa solids. Jennifer Naalchigar is a British - Japanese illustrator based in Hertfordshire, England. She has a love for quirky characters and enjoys experimenting with digital brushes. Jen's client list includes HarperCollins, Hachette, Oxford University Press, Pearson, Random House Children's Books, Reycraft books and Scholastic.
