Living the Dream

English

By (author): David Mitchell

This is a unique and remarkable football story. Ten years ago, Fleetwood Town were playing in the North-West Counties League in front of fewer than 100 spectators. In May 2014, Fleetwood won the League Two play-off final at Wembley to elevate them to League One status. This was the club's sixth promotion in a decade. Many have contributed to the success, but two figures stand out. Andy Pilley, an ambitious businessman joined in 2004 and was elected Chairman almost immediately. Pilley has created an impressive stadium and a successful team as well as galvanizing a town that has suffered since the demise of its fishing industry. Defender Nathan Pond has been ever-present throughout this period after signing as an 18 year old in 2003. Pond has matured year on year and captained Fleetwood as they started their League One campaign. This was his seventh league with one club, earning him a place in this year's Guinness Book of Records. This book charts a remarkable rise. It is full of facts, anecdotes and many memorable characters and games. See more
