Lucky Cat

English

By (author): AsianBoss Girl Helen Wu Janet Wang Melody Cheng Eunice Chen

Illustrated by: Eunice Chen

Lucky Cat is a heartwarming story about an immigrant family in America, and a new friend their daughter June makes as they prepare to open their restaurant.

June's family have a new home in America. There’s plenty to do before their restaurant opens, but Mama is excited when she finds the previous owners have left a Lucky Cat! It’s meant to bring good luck to their ventures, and June is even more excited the next evening when she finds that the statue can come to life.

But unfortunately, Lucky Cat doesn’t seem that lucky. She has the best intentions but she knocks over the vinegar bottle and rips holes in people’s clothing. Will she ever get anything right? Luckily, June learns that real luck is earned through hard work and perseverance as the family embark on a new venture, close to their hearts.

This beautiful book, authored by the hosts of the hugely popular AsianBossGirl podcast and packed with lively, characterful illustrations from the exceptionally talented Eunice Chen tells a funny and uplifting tale of family love and fitting in in a new country. See more

About AsianBoss GirlHelen WuJanet WangMelody ChengEunice Chen

Melody Cheng is the co-host & co-founder of the podcast, AsianBossGirl, a podcast-turned small media company. She is a proud Taiwanese-American originally from the Bay Area and her passion lies in storytelling and connecting with people through digital media, especially within the API community. Prior to working at AsianBossGirl, Melody had a career working in social media marketing and studio production for photography. When she’s not working on the podcast, you can find her binge-watching Korean dramas or, as a self-proclaimed 'Comfort Cook', in the kitchen trying out her mom's recipes. Helen Wu-Wang is a Boston-native podcast host, entrepreneur and digital content creator. Prior to founding the podcast, AsianBossGirl, with two of her best friends, Helen worked at one of the Big 4 accounting firms as a Business Valuation Manager. Diversity in representation is fundamental to the values she believes in and with ABG, her passion and purpose align as she seeks to empower the next generation of API leaders. She is the proud daughter of Chinese immigrants and lives in Los Angeles with her husband and the new love of their lives, a little baby boy.  Janet Wang is a co-founder and co-host of AsianBossGirl, a podcast-turned small media company. She is a Chinese-American SoCal native who has spent time in San Francisco, New York, Miami and Kenya, before settling back into Los Angeles. Prior to ABG, she worked in tech as a UX designer. Janet is also a wellness content creator focused on meditation, yoga, plant-based eating and living, health and self-improvement and contemporary art.

Eunice Chen is an Asian-American artist based in New York City. After a 10-year career in education, she returned to her childhood love of telling stories through art. Her colourful, story-driven illustrations invite others to experience and appreciate different worlds and cultures. She lives in New York City with her husband, son and corgi.

Melody Cheng, Janet Wang, and Helen Wu are the co-creators of AsianBossGirl, a podcast for the modern day Asian American woman. AsianBossGirl was founded to share their experiences as 9-to-5 professional working women, balancing careers, social lives, cultural identities, and personal development while living in the city of Los Angeles. AsianBossGirl is now a media company that they run full time, and Lucky Catis their first children’s book.
