The cars were strong and successful contenders in the 2-liter class and were actively raced in the Italian GT Championship in the second half of the 1950s, winning their class in 1956 and 1959. The cars also participated in legendary races like the Mille Miglia, Targa Florio and Giro di Sicilia. This history of the twenty-one cars made by Officine Maserati S.p.A. in Modena and bodied by Carrozzeria Zagato in Milan, is listed chassis by chassis and profusely illustrated with period photographs and documents, many only recently uncovered.

About Walter Baumer
Walter Baumer was born in 1954 into a family of car enthusiasts. His uncle also named Walter was a Mercedes Grand Prix driver and the winner with Huschke von Hanstein of the 1940 Mille Migia and his father Werner acted as Walter''s manager. After high school Walter studied photography and for many years worked as a fashion photographer and freelance art director for well-known companies in the fashion and cosmetic industries and magazines such as Esquire Lucca Vogue Style and Playboy. Since 2003 he has worked full time as a Maserati historian and consultant. This is Walter''s second book his first being the definitive work on the Maserati 300S also published by Dalton Watson Fine Books. Walter lives in Dusseldorf Germany. Maserati 300S.
