About Alan Bullard

Rebecca Groom te Velde earned degrees in organ performance from Seattle Pacific University and the University of Western Ontario also studying composition and church music. She continued her studies in Germany on a grant from the German Academic Exchange Service. An active performer and clinician on service-playing she holds the Associate Certificate from the American Guild of Organists. She has published organ music with Oxford University Press and Darcey Press and choral compositions with Santa Barbara Music Publishing. She is organist of First Presbyterian Church Stillwater and adjunct instructor of organ at Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma City Oklahoma. David Blackwell studied music at Edinburgh University after which he pursued a career in music publishing first at ABRSM and then at Oxford University Press. He is co-editor of OUP's In the Mood: 17 Jazz Classics for Choirs and Carols for Choirs 5 and has published a number of single choral arrangements. He is co-writer with his wife Kathy of OUP's award-winning string series Fiddle Viola Cello Time and String Time which have twice won the MIA award for Best Educational Publication. He now works as a freelance music editor composer and arranger. David Bednall is one of the leading choral composers of his generation. He has an extensive freelance playing and conducting career and is Organist of The University of Bristol Sub-organist at Bristol Cathedral and conducts The University Singers. He won prizes in Improvisation and Performance at the examination for FRCO and has improvised on live radio and performed extensively in the UK and abroad. He appeared as stunt-organist on Dr Who. He is most prominent as a composer and recordings of his works have been extremely well received. A number of his works have been broadcast on radio and he has been commissioned by St Paul's Cathedral and The Queen's College Oxford. His 40-part motet Lux orta est iusto closed the Bristol Proms 2015 and December 2018 saw the premiere of Make We Merry for upper voices brass and organ commissioned by Benenden and the recording of this has been released on Regent Records. Alan Bullard was born in London and studied with Herbert Howells at the Royal College of Music and at Nottingham University. He enjoyed a successful career in music education; for many years he was Head of Composition at Colchester Institute and is currently an examiner for ABRSM. He now devotes most of his time to composing editing and arranging. His music unfailingly appeals to both performers and audiences; he has written for all kinds of choirs and instrumental works for a variety of ensembles and orchestras. Alan is a respected writer of music for examination syllabuses and educational albums. His major publications include the four inspirational Oxford Flexible Choral Anthologies Alan Bullard Anthems and the five cantatas Wondrous Cross O Come Emmanuel A Light in the Stable Psalmi Penitentiales and Images of Peace. He and his wife Janet also write the Pianoworks series for the older beginner.
