Rose in Bloom

English

By (author): Louisa May Alcott

Rose in Bloom (1876) is a novel by American author, feminist, and abolitionist Louisa May Alcott. Based on her experience of being raised by a father dedicated to education reform, and grounded in her radical beliefs on the role of women in society, Rose in Bloom is a masterpiece of childrens literature that explores themes of family, death, and perseverance. Rose Campbell was a young girl when her parents passed away. Orphaned, she was taken to the Boston home of her great aunts, the Campbell sisters, who raised her while awaiting the arrival of their brother Alec, Roses legal guardian. Now an adult, Rose has returned from a lengthy stay in Europe to find herself pressured to join New England high society in search of a husband. Hesitant at first, she is convinced that by staying true to her education and morals, she will be able to either find a decent man to marry, or at least provide guidance to naïve and wayward suitors. Charlie, her distant cousin, proves one of the latter, and despite Roses best efforts he struggles immensely with a fierce addiction to alcohol. As Rose attempts to navigate social life without surrendering her sense of independence, Phebe, her friend and former servant, attempts to rise above her lowly background to become a professional singer and to prove herself worthy of marriage to Archie, Roses cousin. Although less popular than Alcotts March Family Saga, Rose in Bloom is a brilliant work that captures the power of love and community over prejudice and convention, andlike each of the authors workshas long been read and adored by children and adults alike. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of Louisa May Alcotts Rose in Bloom is a classic of American literature and childrens fiction reimagined for modern readers.

About Louisa May Alcott

Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888) was an American author most known for her celebrated novel Little Women. In addition to her novel writing Louisa May Alcott was an avid poet and short story writer. Following the success of Little Women Alcott wrote Little Men and Jos Boys which were equally well received. Having grown up in New England and raised by parents believing firmly in the transcendentalist movement much of Alcotts writing was based loosely on the facts of her own life;. Louisa May Alcott was not afforded a life of luxury from an early age. Working very hard it was known that her writing became a place of refuge showcasing with distinct clarity the hardships she faced to make her stories both relatable and visceral to nearly all who read them.
