About Danielle VelardiPaula CrociRoberta Lavine
Danielle Cahill Velardi (Ph.D Catholic University of America 1992) is an Associate Professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures at Christopher Newport University where she teaches Spanish language literature and culture courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. She has received several CIBER grants to present and attend workshops on Spanish for the Professions. Her fields of interests are broad and include contemporary popular Spanish culture and literature the integration of film and technology in the classroom foreign language pedagogy and Business Spanish. Paula Croci earned her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language & Literature from Universidad de Buenos Aires Argentina. She is a Professor of 20th Century Literature in UBAs Department of Philosophy and Arts and also teaches Semiology as part of UBAs Ciclo Bsico Comn (Freshman Core Curriculum). She has specialized in the teaching of Spanish and Latin American literature to SFL learners since 1999 and has participated in several exchange programs at Universidad de Belgrano (UB) and Universidad de El Salvador (USAL). In 2009 she joined the Universidad de San Andrs (UdeSA) to design and teach intensive Spanish courses for The Lauder Institute Summer Immersion Program in Buenos Aires and Madrid. Roberta Z. Lavine (Ph.D. Catholic University of America 1983) is an Associate Professor of Spanish and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Maryland where she is also Adjunct Associate Professor in English as Second/Foreign Language. She teaches business Spanish and Cross-Cultural Communication at the undergraduate level and TESOL at the graduate level. Her interests include educational technology and second language pedagogy. She was a Fulbright scholar in Chile and co-edited a volume on technology and teacher training Preparing and Developing Technology-proficient L2 Teachers. She co-directs a program for educational reform in Latin America where she implemented the Diplomado en Educacin Universitaria the first of its kind in Ecuador. She was named Professor Emerita at the Universidad Tecnolgica Equinoccial Ecuador for her numerous efforts on behalf of Ecuadorean education. Lavine has received the University of Maryland Award for Innovation in Teaching with Technology as well as a major grant to transform classes from a traditional to a blended format.
