The river in which he had nearly drowned trying to cross loomed suddenly before him. It was raging just as high and wild as before. Behind him, still out of sight, he knew the friends of his prisoner were riding hell-for-leather to rescue him. He looked around desperately for a place to fort up and make a stand.
