Harry left Canada to join the Royal Sussex (Pioneer) Regiment and arrived in France in July 1915 as a 2nd Lieutenant. Mentioned in Despatches three times and awarded the Military Cross in 1917, he was promoted to Major in the Royal Engineers where he commanded No.5 Army Tramway Company. His story covers the battles of the Somme and Passchendaele where he was wounded.
