He found out that he is in fact the great-grandson of Robert Hichens quartermaster of the Titanic. Hichens was at the helm on that fateful night when the ocean liner struck the infamous iceberg. Simon's amazing discovery is remarkable and has now given a new meaning to his interest and ultimately led to the writing of this book. He has sought to encapsulate the lives and stories of everyone on board the Titanic including his great-grandfather for it was truly a night to remember.
