Everything All At Once: The Film and Software Projects of MOS

English

An exploration into media and architecture, Everything All at Once features the experimental work of the New York Citybased studio MOS. By exchanging plans and sections for software and film, the firm moves beyond the static forms of traditional architectural discourse and exposes a working technique that is inventive, playful and primitive. In this vibrant publication, partners Michael Meredith and Hilary Sample weave together a visual narrative of computation, representation and design. Showcasing over twenty-five projects on screen and in built form, including the acclaimed thatch-covered structures from the 2009 PS1 After Party and the mylar weather balloon installation at the 2010 Venice Biennale, the book provides a unique look at the process of one of the most innovative firms at work today. MOS is founded on the idea of collaboration and is led by Michael Meredith and Hilary Sample who work with artists graphic designers engineers and programmers whose influences can be traced through each of their projects. Based in New York City their current projects include Element House (a guest house adjacent to the site of Star Axis in New Mexico) a temporary cinema at the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus Ohio and a complete interior redevelopment for the Sterling Opera House (an historic theater) in Derby Connecticut. Built projects include an artist studio for Terry Winters Instant Untitled at the American Pavilion at the 2010 Venice Biennale Afterparty at the 2009 PS1/MoMA Young Architects Program and a puppet theater at the Carpenter Center at Harvard University with Pierre Huyghe.
