No Retreat, No Surrender is an easy read that encourages people to hold on to life in the face of challenges. Each chapter ends with a leadership lesson along with pictures which relate to that chapter to emphasise a certain point. Colonel Hlalele starts by introducing himself to the reader; he relates his personal story with the intention to ignite the hunger to live life to its fullest despite current circumstances. Later, Hlalele discusses his school life, how he joined the military and started a family. He speaks of various appointments in the Armed Forces including but not limited to being military commander, trainer and conducting operations inside and outside the country under general terms. The purpose of this book is to motivate, inspire and encourage its readers, serving members, civilians, and in particular young people, on how they can apply these lessons in their everyday lives in order for them to succeed in their endeavours.
