Potteries of Kirkcaldy: The Home of Wemyss Ware
English
By (author): Carol McNeill
With four potteries, the Fife town of Kirkcaldy was a major producer of pottery during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Fife Pottery, Rosslyn Pottery and Sinclairtown Pottery were all based in the Gallatown area of Kirkcaldy, while Kirkcaldy Pottery was in the Links, all well away from the town centre. Although the four Kirkcaldy potteries each produced a variety of designs and styles, the area is most famous for Wemyss Ware. First produced by Heron & Sons Fife Pottery in 1882, Wemyss Ware was based on the designs of old pieces of pottery in the collection of the Wemyss family. Although Fife Pottery went out of business in 1930, Wemyss Ware commands high prices at auction. In this book, Carol McNeill tells the story of the potteries using a fascinating collection of both old and new photographs.
