Biomimetic Synthesis: Strategies and Reactions

English

Many elegant and efficient total syntheses have been achieved using biomimetic pathways. This book highlights sucessful stories of biomimetic chemistry using several examples. It also covers reaction types, such as cycloadditions, sigmatropic rearrangements, C-C bond forming reactions, oxidations and reductions and biomimetic catalysis in depth. See more

About

Dirk Trauner is an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry at UC Berkeley. The Trauner group focuses on the development of new pericyclic reactions and the biomimetic synthesis of biologically active and architecturally attractive natural products. Recent achievements include highly unsaturated polypropionates (e.g. SNF4435 C and D the elysiapyrones and crispatene) and naphthoquinone derivatives (e.g. pinnatal sterekunthal A rubicordifolin and microphyllaquinone). In addition to investigating secondary metabolites the Trauner group is interested in manipulating Nature's large and complex molecular machines in particular ion channels using a combination of protein engineering and chemical synthesis
