A.C.T. for Children: Assisting Children through Transition

Dr. Pedro Carroll begins by summarizing the current research on the impact of divorce on children. She then discusses the risk and protective factors for children of families going through divorce. She also describes the different ways children of various ages may respond to separation/divorce. Dr. Pedro Carroll demonstrates techniques from her parenting program, Assisting Children through Transition (ACT), that is designed to help parents reduce the stress of divorce or separation for their children. Techniques demonstrated include moving to a formal relationship with the other parent, keeping children out of adult conflicts, using better communication with the former spouse, parallel parenting, and cooperative parenting.
