St John’s Conventual Church of the Knights of Malta

St John’s Co-Cathedral is not only a historical, cultural and artistic monument of international repute, but it is also a sacred space where the Catholic faith is nurtured, professed and celebrated. The Knights of Malta tried their very best, and dedicated considerable effort and expense, to build and embellish their conventual church with fine artistic works. This great temple was gradually transformed into a veritable treasure house, thanks to the Grand Masters and dignitaries of the Order, together with a host of individual member Knights, who generously donated artistic gifts.

This publication is intended as a tribute to all those who, in one way or another, have participated in the trajectory of keeping alive the religious and cultural heritage of St John’s Co-Cathedral. Future generations will indeed be grateful towards those who, in our time, had the vision, stamina and skills to restore this monumental temple to its pristine grandeur for the greater glory of God and the enjoyment of mankind.
