The Henry Bagwell Story is a remarkable tale of survival and achievement against great odds. Henry Bagwell was an enterprising young man from a prosperous merchant family in Exeter, Devon, England. A passenger on the ill-fated Third Supply mission that shipwrecked on the reefs of Bermuda en route to Jamestown in 1609, Bagwell earned the unofficial title of adventurer and the official designation of Ancient Planter.Bagwell was in the early wave of seventeenth-century English pioneers who dared to cross a dangerous ocean (in his case, more than once); to serve his time in the development and defense of a new land; and then to take possession of the acreage for which he had worked. He was an important personality in the emerging society of the Eastern Shore of Virginia and the progenitor of a substantial family. This is the first biography that has been written about him. About Margaret A Rice

Margaret A. Maggie Rice enjoyed a long and successful career as a teacher and school administrator in her native England. Born in Wellington Somerset to a grocer father and a teacher mother she worked for two years in London before moving to the U.S. in 1968 with her husband Ray to attend graduate school at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where Ray gained a PhD in food technology. Maggie taught in three different early-years settings within the University and gained a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education. On returning to the UK Maggie served as the head teacher of a nursery school in Hull; Devon County Advisory teacher for Under Fives; an Under Eights Inspector with Devon Social Services; and a college lecturer and child care center manager. Today she and Ray enjoy family gatherings with their daughter Nicola; their son Andrew and his wife Maria; and three grandsons Sebastian Adam and Harry. She values friendships gardening and music and is a memb
