By (author): Mary Barmeyer O'Brien

The first woman ever elected to the U.S. Congress, Jeannette Rankin represented Montana for two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. A leading advocate for both woman suffrage and world peace, she was instrumental in securing the right or Montana women to vote, five years before the right was granted nationally.
