In the autumn/winter 2024/25 season, the Franz Gertsch Museum is staging a large-scale exhibition with around 50 top works by around 30 artists from the collection of the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, Denmark. These include paintings, works on paper, prints and photography. The selection from the Louisiana Museum's collection focuses on works and art movements of the 20th and 21st centuries that can be associated with the life and work of the artist Franz Gertsch (19302022). First and foremost, these are international Pop Art and the American movements of Colorfield and Hard Edge painting; for the later decades, well-known positions from the fields of painting and photography play an important role. The selection from the Louisiana Museum's collection is rounded off by the integration of individual, contemporary Scandinavian works in order to also take into account the special location of the internationally oriented lending museum and to offer the public surprises and new things beyond the big, well-known names. The exhibition and publication offer a unique opportunity to visually embed the works of Franz Gertsch, one of the most important Swiss artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, in their art-historical context.
