About Shirley Hughes

Shirley Hughes has illustrated more than 200 childrens books and is one of the world's most beloved writers for children. She won the Kate Greenaway Medal twice and was awarded a CBE for her distinguished service to childrens literature. In 2007 her beloved picture book Dogger was voted the UKs favourite Kate Greenaway Medal-winning book of all time. As well as her best-loved picture books Shirley also wrote novels for children; the first Hero on a Bicycle won the Museum of Tolerance: Once Upon a World Childrens Book Award in 2014. Her second novel Whistling in the Dark won the Young Quills Historical Fiction Awards in 2016.
