Malta stories, many of them originally written in Maltese, that reflect a bygone era when popular folklore, superstition, fear and sentiment had not experienced the dramatic changes that were about to transpire with the onset of television and other telecommunications developments. These were times when on stormy winter evenings, goodly folk gathered around flickering candles whilst smouldering paraffin lamps threw imaginative shadows and enflamed the fantasies of the story-tellers and their listeners.
