About Michael Yates
Michael Yates was born in Lancashire in the mid 20th century. He began his working life as an apprentice fitter in the cotton mills of Wigan in the mid 60's. As the cotton industry declined he transferred his apprenticeship to general engineering but eventually returned to work in the textile industry for a further ten years. He then spent the next twenty-three years working in the car component industry. When faced with redundancy he became self-employed as a window-cleaner and also in the property maintenance business. After retirement he was determined to fulfill his life-long ambition to write. He entered a joke writing competition in what was then the TV Times and was runner up. This led to him being offered the chance to write jokes and scripts for comedy shows. He also wrote a book of poems. Lizzie Steeples is his first full length novel and he is already working on his next story. He is married to Carol and has two children and is proud grandfather to Erin and Jake.
