Non-equilibrium Transport of Non-uniform Suspended Load

English

By (author): Mingmin He Qiwei Han

The book is based on stochastic theory of sediment motion, particularly the theory of transition intensities.

It provides a complete theory and equation system of non-equilibrium transport of non-uniform suspended load. The content proposed theory reports, for the first time in literature, the general boundary condition of diffusion equations of non-equilibrium transport with transition intensities. The book also introduces the theoretical expressions of size distribution of the carrying sediment capacity, efficient bed material grade, and saturation recovery coefficient

This book describes the application of non-equilibrium transport theory and provides solutions to some long-standing unsolved controversial problems related to sediment transport. It establishes a generic mathematic model of reservoir sedimentation and river channel evolution; illustrates the same transport regulars of wash load and bed material load; demonstrates the multi-valued nature of carrying-sediment capacity and its single-valued consideration; and describes the mechanism of bed material coarsening.

This book is of interest to a wide audience including students, technicians, and academics, primarily working in the field of river hydra-dynamics. In addition, this book receives attention from the research community working in fields, such as hydrogeology, hydraulic engineering, river navigation, wastewater treatment, and environmental protection

About Mingmin HeQiwei Han

Qiwei Han had been an academician in the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor and senior engineer at the Department of Sediment Research Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research Beijing China. He had been primarily engaged in the studies on sediment movement and involved in the planning design and research work of a series of hydraulic projects. His major contribution to the study of sedimentation science is to establish the statistical theory of sediment movement especially the transition intensity theory and the non-equilibrium sediment transport theory by using the combination of sediment dynamics and stochastic process theory. It changes the lack of a general theoretical system in sediment research and the lack of in-depth research on the randomness of sediment movement. He had published more than 100 research papers and six books in the field of sediment engineering. In addition he had participated in the research planning and design of some hydraulic projects including the Three Gorges Reservoir reconstruction of Samenxia Reservoir Xiaolangdi Reservoir Wujiangdu Reservoir Cutoff project of Jingjiang River Reach and the governance plan of the relation between river-reach and the lakes downstream the Yangtze River.   Mingmin He graduated from the Department of Mathematics and Mechanics at Peking University China. She has a strong foundation in the field of mechanics and mathematics and has been primarily working on the research related to sediment movement particularly the statistical theory of sediment movement. She is the co-author of the books Statistic Theory of Sediment Movement (Science Press Beijing China 1984) and Laws of Incipient Sediment Motion and Entrainment Velocity (Science Press Beijing China 1999).
