Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Practical Guide to Using a Microscope

English

By (author): Andrzej Marek ak

Transmission electron microscopy is a powerful tool for looking at small physical specimens from nanomaterials, metal alloys and other structural materials, to microorganisms, tissues and biomacromolecules. The book covers microscope design and explains how the miscoscope functions and operates. It provides the essential theoretical and practical information in a compact manner together with case studies and a summary of good operator practices.

About Andrzej Marek ak

Andrzej ak is assistance professor at Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (WUST) in Wroclaw Poland. His work is focused on producing new solutions for in-situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) including dedicated specimen holders microscopy hardware and solutions for image analysis. During his work as head of the microscopy facility he was involved in training new users and designing and performing imaging experiments for a wide community of local researchers. For this reason he has worked in many fields of science from those related to nanomaterials through metal alloys and other structural materials to the microscopy of liquid samples microorganisms tissues and biomacromolecules. During his work and partly as part of his interests he often brought electron microscopes from the '70-'90s back to life. He participated in the design and creation of a local center for cryogenic microscopy (cryoEM) and the construction of a TEM microscope dedicated to light-induced research. He is the author of over 70 scientific publications patent applications and patents as well as over 30 research reports for external companies. Heparticipated in many scientific projects always related to the use of electron microscopy techniques. He is a fellow of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (Poland) and the Kosciuszko Foundation(USA). As part of his scientific internships he worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT) University Duisburg-Essen and Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus-Senftenberg(BTU).
