The Music of Django Reinhardt

English

This title offers an in-depth analysis of the music and life of a gypsy music legend. Famed gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt has been the subject of numerous books, both in this country and abroad. His life was featured in Woody Allen's film Sweet and Lowdown, and his music influenced guitarists within jazz and beyond. But never before has the story of Reinhardt's music been so thoroughly and carefully explored. Benjamin Givan examines how one of jazz's greatest guitarists created his unparalleled sound, despite the tragic accident that rendered his left hand virtually unusable. The Music of Django Reinhardt is an analytical study of his music, including his process, his improvisational style, and his instrumental technique. The book features transcriptions from records of the 1920s through the 1950s and includes detailed discussion of selected performances from one of the most important guitarists in history. See more
