About John Barrass
John Barrass is an English travel and cookery writer. Born in the New Forest in the south of England he joined the air force after university and spent 20 years flying all over the world with much of his time spent on humanitarian operations. He spent 3 years with the RCAF in Canada and during that time saw service in the first Gulf war and commanded the airlift resupplying Canadian troops in the besieged city of Sarajevo in 1992. He finished his career in the RAF in command of a Hercules tactical transport squadron before starting a new life as a serial occasionally successful entrepreneur starting up companies focused on such diverse fields as software engineering data analytics aviation safety and recruitment. Over the next 20 years he again travelled the world this time in more comfort with work mainly related to aviation safety. His love of travel and the yearning to experience different cultures has taken him to every continent apart from Antarctica. John is an active writer on aviation safety matters and was editor of the acclaimed SKYbrary aviation safety online encyclopaedia for 8 years.
