Small Molecules for Cancer Treatment

English

The book explores role of small molecules and peptides in cancer therapy, with a focus on (Aptamer-drug conjugates, Androgen Receptor and Tyrosine Kinase inhibitors, and Glycosylation inhibitors. Small molecule inhibitors targeting oncogenic pathways such as EGFR and PI3K inhibitors, Peptides in oral cancer such as Antimicrobial peptides, Cell Penetrating Peptides, Tumour targeting peptides, Natural small molecules with anti-cancer effects such as phenolic compounds, alkaloids, terpenoids and steroids, Phthalides and lectins, Peptides targeting the tumor microenvironment such as GM-CSF's, LAG3, PD 1, CCL2, CCR-5, CXCR4 inhibitors). An introductory chapter covers the foundation for understanding their significance in cancer treatment. The book delves into the versatility and precision of small molecules, highlighting their advantages in drug delivery and formulation strategies. It emphasizes the expansion of therapeutic horizons through small molecule peptides, shedding light on their potential in targeting tumor microenvironments and advancing cancer therapeutics. Additionally, the book discusses combination therapies and synergistic effects, offering a deeper understanding of integrating different therapeutic approaches. Furthermore, it addresses emerging trends, challenges, safety considerations, and the relevance of small-molecule inhibitors.

This book provides a crucial update on the latest advancements and serves as a valuable resource for researchers, clinicians, and students interested in the rapidly evolving landscape of cancer treatment, offering an overview of the potential and complexities associated with these compounds in the fight against cancer.

About

Prof. Surajit Pathak Ph.D. is a leading researcher and academic currently a Professor at Chettinad Academy of Research and Education in Chennai. With a Ph.D. from India (2007) and a post-doctoral journey at renowned institutions like the University of Alabama (USA) University of Padova (Italy) and University of Linkoping (Sweden) his research focuses on microRNAs for early colorectal cancer detection. Prof. Pathak has published various research articles and he is a member of global research societies. His work continues to shape advancements in cancer research and stem cell biology globally. Dr. Antara Banerjee Ph.D. is currently working as an Associate Professor at Chettinad Academy of Research and Education (CARE) Chennai. Dr. Banerjee pursued her post-doctoral research on Cancer Biology and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Padova Italy and Linkoping University Sweden. These works fostered her interest in understanding the role of the mesenchymal niche and extra-cellular vesicles in tissue regeneration and exploring signaling pathways in governing stem cell fate. Dr. Banerjee has edited several books on Stem Cells and Cancer. She is affiliated with professional research bodies and is a member of several international research societies. Professor Asim K. Duttaroy is a leading expert in nutrition and medical science renowned for his groundbreaking research in lipid metabolism cardiovascular health and chronic disease prevention. He has significantly contributed to understanding how food bioactive compounds impact human health. His pioneering work on the cardio-protective properties of fruits e.g. the role of fruitflow (tomato extract) and kiwifruit extract in reducing platelet aggregation and blood pressure has led to international patents. His innovative research continues to influence global health strategies and food-based therapies.
