Sexual Dimorphism in Health and Disease: From the Lab Bench to Clinical Investigations

English

This book is a valuable source for clinical researchers, clinicians, and people in the biomedical field who want to understand the mechanisms of a very important biological factor in disease: sex. This book addresses the function of different signaling pathways, the modification of the metabolism of the cells as well as chemical compounds with estrogenic activity that are involved in the generation of gender differences in disease. The book is intended to broaden the comprehension of sexual dimorphism and its molecular mechanisms, mainly during human pathologies. It is significant to people interested in an update on sex differences in health and disease, and explains the latest sex-associated factors for different types of diseases. It also delves into the advantages of modifying metabolisms in order to obtain potential strategies for restoring the function of effector immune cells. See more

About

Dr Jorge Morales Montor obtained his doctoral degree in 1997. He performed his postdoctoral research at the Department of Cellular Biology at the University of Georgia USA with a grant from the Fogarty Foundation and was a Pan-American Fellow for 4 years. Some of his most important contributions are: partially determining the role of steroid hormones in immunological sexual dimorphism in the polarization of the immune response and in antigenic presentation. He has also contributed very relevant studies in relation to how different physiological stages like the estrous cycle age sex or pregnancy affect the functioning of the immune endocrinological and nervous systems and what molecules could be the determinants in this context of network. He has so far produced 173 articles in international indexed journals has edited several books published more than 55 chapters in books and has been cited more than 4000 times. He has also directed more than 100 students of all levels.
