American photographers John Huet and David Burnett were commissioned by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to cover the London Games of 2012 in their own way, with considerable artistic and technical freedom. About

DAVID BURNETT launched his photographic career at Time Magazine in 1967. He covered the Vietnam War as a staff photographer for Life Magazine. In 1975 he co-founded Contact Press Images in New York. Traveling to more than 75 countries Burnett has produced photographic essays for Time Life Fortune The New Yorker and The New York Times Sunday Magazine.John Huet began photographing competitive athletes 25 years ago. His book Soul of the Game: Images and Voices of Street Basketball was published to critical acclaim in 1997. Simultaneous to the publication of the book a solo exhibition of John s graphic and compelling black & white photographs appeared at the International Center of Photography in Manhattan. The exhibition then traveled to notable museums and galleries around the United States.Following the success of his book John went on to partner with the Salt Lake Organizing Committee to develop a signature look for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. His sensibility and vision produced powerful images that were exhibited on a grand scale throughout Salt Lake City and Park City Utah. In addition he organized an extraordinary team of 12 photographers whose images along with his own comprise The Fire Within the official commemorative book of the 2002 Olympic Games. A group exhibition of this work opened at the Staley-Wise Gallery in Manhattan in November 2002 and is now permanently installed at The Olympic Cauldron Park in Salt Lake City.In July 2004 John s work was featured in the exhibition Games for the Gods: The Greek Athlete and the Olympic Spirit at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. His photography was chosen to represent the modern day Olympic athlete in the exhibition. The Museum of Fine Arts has since acquired John s photography for its permanent collection. The International Olympic Committee selected John as the photographer to best capture the artistry and spirit of the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens and entrusted him with the honor of doing so on its behalf. In 2006 ESPN The Magazine chose John as the exclusive photographer to capture the most dramatic and newsworthy moment of the Winter Olympics in Torino and featured his images in their issue on The Games. The International Olympic Committee again chose John to capture the artistry of the Olympics at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Prior to The Games he made several trips to China on behalf of the IOC to create a series of images that showcase contemporary life and culture in Beijing. The success of John s contribution to the 2008 Games was the impetus behind the International Olympic Committee tapping him for the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. In addition to his career as a photographer John is also a successful commercial director directing broadcast spots for high profile clients. He has earned a reputation for streamlining the process of shooting stills and broadcast on the same set delivering a seamless campaign that crosses multiple media platforms. Many of John s clients have taken inspiration for the direction of their campaigns from the authenticity of his photographic and directorial eye.website is johnhuet.com
