Milky Moments

English

By (author): Ellie Stoneley

Illustrated by: Jessica D'Alton Goode

A beautiful book for children and their families, Milky Moments celebrates the joy of childhood and mothering, and normalises breastfeeding as a part of day-to-day life.

Delightfully illustrated scenes are complemented by lyrical rhyming text that gently draws the reader into the lives of the families depicted. The hand-painted illustrations are set in a variety of locations including a playgroup, a shopping trip, parks, hospital and at home. The childrens ages range from newborn to 5 years old, baby and child breastfeeding positioning is accurate and realistic, and the love and attention to detail in the book were inspired by the guiding principles of the La Leche League and the authors own personal experience.

Inspirational, intimate and fun, Milky Moments is not only a book to treasure, but also a book that will educate and inform on the importance and normality of breastfeeding however old you are.

About Ellie Stoneley

Ellie Stoneley gave birth to her daughter at the age of 47 in 2012. When shes not writing or singing songs about scarecrows and black sheep with toddlers Ellie works freelance helping small charities and businesses to give themselves a louder voice online. She studied Psychology and English Literature at Durham University and has worked all over the world most notably mining opals in the Australian outback and with John Humphrys as a volunteer on behalf of his charity the Kitchen Table Charities Trust for whom she travelled to Madagascar to highlight the issues many children face there. Ellie writes regularly about mothering and being an older (positively geriatric) first time mother on her own blog Mush Brained Ramblings for Huffington Post as well as at Mumsnet Midlife Mothers What to Expect Breastfeeding Matters and Cambridge News. She appears on TV and radio to discuss a variety of parenting issues. When her daughter was born Ellie was determined to breastfeed but things got off to a shaky start as her baby was premature and had to be fed via a nasal tube and was found to have a tongue tie. Ellie found tremendous support from the La Leche League and a local breastfeeding drop in centre which transformed their nursing experience and nearly 3 years later they are still going strong. She hopes that Milky Moments will support and encourage other new mothers their children and families on their own breastfeeding journeys. Jessica began illustrating children's books in 2011 after having a go at studying everything from film production to veterinary medicine. After a few years of travelling and working she sat down and started drawing chickens which made her smile and apparently a lot of other people too. Stories won over in the end and as they seem to bring about the biggest adventures of her life and can be done in a dressing gown she has decided to stick with it. Jessica has worked on several book covers with award winning children's author Pippa Goodhart as well as several small projects of her own painting and creating stories with her partner alongside her fine art exhibitions. She is currently based along with six chickens and a particularly friendly bonsai tree in Cambridge in the UK.
