The critical appraisal of deforestation and the methods for such investigations have recently become important issues internationally. This book examines the socio-environmental relations and environmental changes in the African savannah. Socio-environmental relations in sub-Saharan Africa: the externalities of deforestation, floods, droughts, fires, socio-political upheavals, diseases and tribally, regionally relevant wars; still capture the headlines of the global media. However, Africa is still a continent dominated by farming and the socio-environmental externalities of this include forest border change and fragmentation, reactions to rainfall and associated results, urban markets and the implications of population change.
