Bold: A Story of Survival Through Ireland''s Institutions
English
By (author): Mary Forde O'Neill
An amazing story of survival, after a life spent under the control of some of Irelands most notorious institutions.
Born in the Tuam Mother and Baby Home, Mary Forde ONeill was fostered out at the age of seven. Unfortunately, abuse in this home led to her being delivered back to Tuam followed by periods in an Industrial Reformatory School, a Magdalene Laundry and even St Brigids Mental Asylum. Ill-equipped for a life of genuine freedom, she started her own family, but the ghosts of the past were never laid to rest. When these institutions, and the countrys stuttering response to scandal, became international news, Mary sought to untangle and tell her own story.
Told through conversations with Ryan Weldon, a Dublin-born filmmaker from a different generation, this is a powerful lesson in what Ireland has done to its own for far too long.
