Hugh Miller was a self-made man who became a figure of national renown in the fields of social commentary literature religion and geology. The Introduction and Notes to this facsimile edition are by Dr Michael Taylor Research Associate at the National Museums of Scotland and Visiting Research Fellow School of Museum Studies University of Leicester; the Preface is by Professor T C Smout Historiographer Royal for Scotland.
