In 1911, the Red Sox embarked on the most ambitious spring training trip ever taken before or since. In the days when travel was by train, and even the automobile was relatively new, the Red Sox traveled from Boston to California and back again, playing 63 spring training games up and down the West Coast, and then as they traveled east in an almost bewildering number of locations--many of which have never seen another major-league team in the 100 years since the Red Sox visited.
